Jessica Speziale

If there is one singer who people need to hear about coming up in the Toronto music scene it's this girl.

I was fortunate enough to meet this young woman a number of years ago at Canadian Music Week, (it's a great event run by an awesome staff) or as we know it CMW. She instantly stands out in the room with a killer smile and can always be found mingling or talking to people. One day I was walking by a room (at CMW) and heard a voice singing. It made me stop instantly to go look to see who it was. I looked into the room and there was Jessica, I couldn't believe my ears (she's fantastic).  After that it was time to go see her live and after gaining a copy of her debut EP (Dear Reverie) I was hooked. The EP has been well played let me add.

I want everyone else to get to know who she is as well. Jessica Speziale is one of the hardest working women in showbiz and deserves everyone's support. Jessica took some time out of her hectic schedule to answer a few questions and here they are.

1) Could you please introduce yourself and tell us what you do?

My name is Jessica Speziale and I'm a pop/rock musician and songwriter.  I do powerhouse vocals with the intent of Serena Ryder and the soul of Alicia Keys :)

2) Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Toronto!

3) How did you get into music and why?

I grew up in a really musical household.  My mum and dad met in a band!  My dad is still a full-time musician, and so there was always music playing in the house and I learned how to harmonize singing with them in the car :)  I was part of every band and choir I could get my hands on all through school.  I started writing in elementary school and really got into writing and performing at school fashion and talent shows in high school.  Playing full sets of my own music and getting the band together really started after university when I realized that the 9-5 really couldn't be the be-all and end-all for me.  I started writing again seriously, and a friend gave me the opportunity to play the cafe he was booking for.  It was magic, and I couldn't look back!

4) Who are your influences in music?

Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill album really inspired the beginning of my songwriting!  I'm also really inspired by Daniel Johns (silverchair), Josh Ramsay (Marianas Trench), and many of my musical friends in the Toronto scene that blow my mind and push me routinely - currently, Jessica Bundy, The Joon Bugs, and UFORIA are high up on that list.

5) What is your focus and some of your goals for your music career?

For 2014, my main two main focus points are releasing videos regularly and recording a new album!

6) Where can people hear you online?

I have music up on my website for streaming at :)

7) Your website address? Facebook?

My facebook page is

8) What if anything do you want the fans to know about you?

I used to act in commercials when I was a kid!  haha

9) Any advice for people looking to pursue a dream of music?

Make sure you really love it.  It's an artistic persuit, it's not a job that finishes at a certain time each day, so you've got to be in it for the right reasons.  The passion for it keeps you inspired.  :)  Don't lose faith!

10) How would you describe your sound?

I like to say I do powerhouse vocals with the intent of Serena Ryder and the soul of Alicia Keys :)  (I said this twice, I know.  haha)

11) When and where is your next show so fans can get the full music experience?

Our next show is Saturday, February 15th at Magpie in Toronto!  Show starts at 9:30, we're on around 11!

12) Is there any charity you support or would like to help bring attention to?

I've been doing a lot of work with a Toronto-based non-profit organization called the One Fire Movement!  My song, How To Be A Man was included on their compilation CD, We Are One, and we're working on a bunch of new musical projects!  Currently, we've been focused on fundraising initiatives for Nellie's Women's Shelter and Amnesty International.

13) Do you have a favorite moment or highlight you would share with us?

Hmm...good question!  There are so many <3  The biggest one that comes to mind was the One Fire Movement We Are One CD release that we played at NXNE this year!  What a crazy awesome show.  There was so much energy in the air that night!

14)  Any final thoughts or comments for the fans out there?

I love you guys!!  I can't wait to see what 2014 brings for us :)

*Final thought, I am over due to see her live again and I definitely need to grab some new photos of her to share. She is a great person who works hard and loves what she does. Only through more hard work and fan support can we get her to the top where I am sure she is going to go. Please visit her website, Twitter or say hi on Facebook and tell her Richard Dukeshire sent you! Don't forget to share this blog with everyone as well, wherever you can!
